THE ORACLE
A FINAL GOODBYE TO A FAILED PROJECT.
A SHORT FILM TO SAY GOODBYE TO A FAILED SCULPTURE. FILMED AND EDITIED BY ALFONSO MORENO AND I.
not every project is worth it’s salt.
I started this project really strong. I would only use cardboard I dug out of the recycling bin! I would hand layer hundreds of sheets of fringe fur! It would be incredible!
I could tell almost right away this project wasn’t going to work out. For starters, the push-button egg-drop rig I built (while impressive for being made fully out of recycled cardboard) wasn’t very reliable. It would jam up frequently, and due to its fragile nature, I wouldn’t be able to trust strangers to interact without fear of damaging the piece. The body looked pretty wack from the jump- but I had hope that the fur would cover any unsightly curvature. Nope. I felt that the piece had past the point of charming attributes and began leading towards poor craftsmanship. Also, layering the strips of fur was excruciatingly tedious. I spent full afternoons just trimming the sheets down to size, hand fanning the fur pieces and curling each chunk. NOT WORTH THE EFFORT!!
